Having an issue with stammering or stuttering takes a huge toll on a person’s life. If you have a problem with a stutter or a stammer, then you know that your life is affected. You don’t have the same confidence as other people do because you worry about the way that you talk. You don’t want people to laugh or giggle at you because you have no control over it. You just want it to go away.

A lot of people assume that stammering or stuttering are just childhood phases that go away after time, but this is not the case. A child with a stutter or a stammer will have a speech impediment as an adult if it is not corrected at any early age. If you are an adult with a stutter, then you need to fix your problem now. It is time that you lived a life that you were proud of.

There is a stammering treatment that will work for you. There are many things that you can do that will help to remedy your condition so you can have more confidence in your everyday speech. For instance, practicing in front of the mirror whenever possible will help you to control your stutter. Feeling the words rolling off of your tongue before you say them to a person will allow you to get more control over your speed of speech. Also, reading more will help you to control your stutter. Try reading some poetry to practice pentameter and you will be able to speak better and with more confidence.

You don’t have to struggle through another sentence again. Speaking in front of new people doesn’t have to be an issue for you any longer. You can stop your stuttering and stammering and change the way you live your life.

In my early twenties I had had enough of living life with a fear of talking and decided that the time had come to attempt to overcome the stutter. As strange as it may sound, I took heart from the fact that I was able to speak when I was under the influence of alcohol (drunk); I could also speak when I was singing and when I was shouting. I thought to myself that if I can talk in these situations that there was no reason why I should not be able to talk in all situations.

I had attempted various forms of stuttering therapy but had found little benefit from any of them, perhaps this was my bad attitude or maybe it was the standard of treatment that I was receiving. In my opinion stuttering is a very complex subject and unless you have had the problem yourself, it would be very difficult to understand just what it is like to have this form of speech impediment.

I spoke to my family and friends about the fact that I was planning to attempt to achieve fluency and they vowed to help me as much as they could. I was aware that was no miracle pill to cure stuttering and that it would take quite a long time; the rewards would be so massive that I was willing to wait.

My self-confidence had been eroded because of my inability to speak fluently and I believed that if I could some how find a way to increase my overall self-esteem that I would have a chance to eradicate the stutter. When I was drunk my confidence would be on a high, I knew that I could not be intoxicated on a permanent basis however.

It was a long road but a road that did eventually lead to fluency. I am now thirty-four years of age, I am fluent and I now do not drink any alcohol whatsoever.

Stuttering is a speech disorder in which the normal flow of speech is disrupted by frequent repetitions or prolongations of speech sounds, syllables or words or by an individual’s inability to start a word. The speech disruptions may be accompanied by rapid eye blinks, tremors of the lips and/or jaw or other struggle behaviors of the face or upper body that a person who stutters may use in an attempt to speak. Certain situations, such as speaking before a group of people or talking on the telephone, tend to make stuttering more severe, whereas other situations, such as singing or speaking alone, often improve fluency.

Remember that silences occur in all conversations – so don’t worry about them!

Learn from the experience – it’s not the end of the world if you did stutter – you can improve for the next call!

Listen to other speakers on the phone – everyone has hesitations and nonfluencies.

Early identification and treatment of speech and language disorders is very important to improving communication skills. The goal of early intervention therapy is to build a foundation for fluent speech by helping the child to view speaking as easy and enjoyable instead of difficult and dreadful.

As a child who stutters grows older, he becomes aware of how his way of speaking differs from others and starts to experience more of the emotional ramifications of the disorder. He may see that others don’t have a hard time speaking. Other children most certainly point out the differences, either politely, “Why do you repeat your words like that?” or in a teasing manner. Feeling different from peers influences the child’s self-concept and it is crucial that he not suffer from feeling like there is something wrong with him.

Provide visual cues, concrete examples and drawings to increase the child’s understanding.

Use good speaking habits yourself such as keeping eye contact and listening to what your child is saying, not to how he is talking.

Treatment should always be based upon each client’s needs, and this is particularly true with ASDs. Because stuttering interferes with effective conversation skills and therefore social interaction, treatment is crucial. Social interaction and self-monitoring can be more difficult for those with ASDs.

Stuttering Modification Therapy doesn’t eliminate stuttering, but it modifies one’s moments of stuttering so that their stuttering is less severe.

Apply warm brahmi oil on top of head and allow it to soak for about 30 – 45 minutes. Afterwards bathe using warm water. This process helps improve memory as well clearing stuttering and stammering.

Hypnosis can also be used as an analytical approach to go back to the time when the stuttering first began, and analyse the situation that first triggered the stutter. Hypnosis can be utilised to change a person’s beliefs about that situation, and to desensitise the reactions to the memory.

When therapy is required—since there really is no cure for stuttering, keeping a journal and trying to eliminate triggers as much as possible will be the first step. Once this is done and your child requires speech therapy, it will be focused on helping the child learn an easier way to talk. The earlier the speech therapy begins the better chance a child has of overcoming or greatly lessening the stuttering. The therapist will also teach the child ways to communicate more effectively overall, which can help lessen stuttering. Even if the child’s stuttering doesn’t completely dissipate, it is usually made manageable by therapy.

There is often a big debate in speech therapy circles about whether people can overcome stuttering, to be able to live a stutter free life. Some specialists say you can and others say you can’t.

I started stuttering when I was four years of age. My childhood and my early adult life were very much affected by this most frustrating form of speech impediment.

My parents, who saw how much it troubled me, sought help, in the early years, via taking me to a local speech therapist. Even now, at the age of thirty-four, I can clearly remember how much I disliked attending these classes.

Possibly due to my bad attitude but also due to the quality, or lack of it, of the speech therapist, I struggled to improve my fluency. In fact as I became older the worse the stutter became.

As I entered into my teenage years, I became more and more frustrated with my lack of improvement via speech therapy and also with the fact that I actually had a stutter. I was starting to feel a little sorry for myself.

At around the age of fifteen I asked a speech therapist if there was a cure for stuttering, he told me that there was not. I could not believe it and my heart sank, I could not bear having this horrible speech impediment for the rest of my life.

At the age of sixteen I became drunk for the first time, it may seem strange but I loved the feeling! I had so much confidence and my speech seemed to improve with every bottle I drank.

This was, for me, a breakthrough. I was able to talk when drunk, therefore I should be able to talk when I am sober – there is no excuse.

The cure for stuttering is not to be in a permanent drunken state but it just proved that I did have the capability of talking fluently.

I then had the task of developing this into a full blown cure for stammering and stuttering.

Also referred to as stammering, this condition is more common in men for reasons that are not fully understood. Treatments for stuttering have improved over the last few years and no longer just rely on the tradtional forms of speech therapy.

Around a decade ago, a visit to the local speech therapist seemed to be the only option available for people who had a stutter. The main reason to attend speech therapy was the hope that it would provide some form of fluency and a potential cure for stuttering.

These hopes would basically be dashed after just one visit. Instead of explaining a treatment program that if followed with hard work and determination would lead to fluency, the speech therapist would state that they did not believe that there was a cure for a stutter and that the person should accept that they had the stutter. What great advice!

I am somebody who had a stutter and I went home feeling disgusted with the speech therapy that I was given. What I could not understand, at that tender age of just eight, was why at times I could talk very well when at other times I would struggle to say a single word. Surely if somebody could find an answer to this then a cure would not be far away. The big frustration was the fact that nobody was seemingly looking for a stuttering cure and that they had all just accepted that it was not possible to overcome it.

Despite the negative attitude that I was hearing from the speech therapists, I did feel that I had hope. I knew that these speech therapists had never suffered with a stutter and that in reality they could not fully understand what it was like to have this form of speech impediment, there is only so much that you can learn via a book.

After living life with a stutter for around eighteen years, I decided to attempt to search for my own cure for stuttering and I have now been fluent for the last eleven years.

The stutter badly affected my overall confidence and self-esteem levels and made me in to some what of a shy and reclusive person. I was so desperate to become free from this stutter in order for the real Stephen Hill to be let out to enjoy the world. I searched for a stuttering cure and was determined that I would not stop looking until I had found the answers to help me to overcome this horrible speech impediment.

My initial search ended up with a huge feeling of frustration and it has to be said anger, this was after seeking help from the speech therapy department at my local hospital. I could not believe the approach of these speech and language therapists. I described to them about the speech impediment that I had and that I was looking into ways of eradicating it from my speech. I stated that I had a dream of one day being able to speak fluently, free from the fear of stuttering. I opened my heart up to these guys only to be told that in their opinion, there was not a cure for stuttering. Shoot me now then! This is what I felt like saying at this point in time but I had to ignore this negative attitude and move on to pastures new.

I then went to my local library and read a few books on the subject of stuttering. These books were interesting but again did not have the answers I was looking for. My mind was now becoming tainted, perhaps there is no cure for stuttering, perhaps I will have a stutter for the rest of my life. At this point I slapped myself. I was starting to think in a negative way and had to snap myself out of it.

It was now time to find my own cure for stammering and stuttering. If I could continue to think in a positive manner and have a very determined attitude, then I may well find the answers that I am looking for.

After about a year of working extremely hard and after a few tears, I finally managed to overcome the stutter/stammer. I have now been fluent for the last eleven years and as a career I now help other people to achieve fluency.
