Some of the world’s leading experts on stuttering now believe that stuttering is not caused by a physiological weakness but by an anatomical problem in the brain. They are learning that stuttering is actually a miscommunication between the brain speech centers and the mouth.
These researchers now believe that an anti-anxiety medicine called Pagoclone can control stuttering by controlling dopamine with no side effects. The medication is effective in reducing stuttering in over half the patients that have been involved in the clinical trial.
It is important to note that this drug does not cure stuttering it just curbs it. These experts also believe the future of treatment for stuttering will combine therapy and medication.
